"Okay what if you want to raise a few sheep of your own? How do you go about doing it. The best thing would be to find other sheep raisers in your area. If you go on-line wherever you live, you will see groups of sheep raising people because sheep's are quite common. It doesn't take a lot of land to raise sheep. In many towns if you have as little as an acre or half an acre, you can keep sheep on it. Know your local ordinances and find someone near you who raises sheep. I would say the best thing to do is get one of their sheep. See if somebody local will sell you a sheep or a lamb and you know that is an animal that is well established in your area. If you really need to raise an exotic type of sheep that you just can't live without, then you've got to do a lot of research. You've got to know what you are doing. Don't just go out and get a lamb because you think it is cute because within a few months you will have yourself a ewe and you won't know what to do with her. You need to have grazing and you need to have shelter. Those are the two big things. And you need to know how to take care of an animal or you need to have somebody right near by. If you've got a good sheep farmer down the road, I'd say you are pretty safe in terms of having somebody that you can go to, to find out information. But you never want to start raising an animal without a good basis of knowledge. "
