"Hi, this is Jill Bergman and I am going to talk to you about we wean our alpacas and weaning is the process of taking a baby or a cria off of the mother who's the cria been nursing and what we do is a very very gradual wean. We actually have a schedule where we will separate the cria from its mother for two hours and we will do that for about oh four or five days and we will increase the time we will separate the cria from its mother for four hours and then we do that for about four or five days and then we will separate the cria from the mother for the whole day and we will do that for about four or five days and then we will and then the big step is separating the cria from its mother for twenty four hours and that can sometimes be traumatic and the interesting thing is that is that it is often times more dramatic for little boy baby crias then it is for girls. So we have to keep tabs on how these baby's are doing being separated from there mothers during this time."
