Weighing Alpacas & Checking Teeth

"Hi, I'm Jill Bergman, and I'm going to show you the first thing we do on a monthly basis, and that is we weigh our alpacas, and this is Isabella, and she will come up to the scale here. And Isabella knows exactly what she is supposed to do. She is supposed to stand on the scale, and we need her to stand sort of in the center of the scale, so that we can get an accurate reading of her weight. And I can tell she's feeling a little intimidated by all that's going on this morning, but she's extremely obedient, and because she wants to please us, she'll stand on the scale for us, for just about as long as we'd want her to. And since we do this every month, we weigh every month, we compare the past month's weight to the weight this month, to make sure that she hasn't lost any weight or hasn't gained too much weight, just to make sure that she's doing well. What we look for in the teeth is that the bottom teeth are just meeting the upper gums. And you can see that they're doing that with her, and so I would say that her teeth look perfect. That's the way take a look at her eyes, to make sure that her eyes aren't running, and they look real clear and bright-eyed. Her nose isn't running, she looks nice and nice and healthy. She's got a got a nice walk to her, she's not doesn't have any stumbling or any limping, so judging from the outside of her looking at her right now, she looks very good."
