"Okay chickens developed in the Far East probably 8 to 10,000 years ago. There is various new data coming up all of the time. But they were developed by breeding together a native Junglefowl called the Red Junglefowl in Thailand, what is currently Thailand. Now the interesting thing that they first developed for the sport of cockfighting and this is what everybody was interested in, the spurs on the roosters. This nice long spur is what they used to fight each other. So chickens first developed because people used them for fighting and then eventually they discovered they laid eggs and gave meat. Over hundreds of thousands of years, various breeds of chicken were developed for various purposes. Eventually cockfighting was declared illegal in almost every country in the world and so chickens were bred for their domesticity, their egg laying ability, for the size they grow into a meat bird. And now we have hundred's varieties of chickens and chicken is the most useful widespread source of protein other than fish, chickens and eggs are in the entire world. "
