Video Transcript

"Hi! I'm Jill Begman, and I just wanted to tell you how important sunshine is for alpacas. Fortunately, we live in Utah where we get tons of intensive sunshine all year round. And it really is a benefit to them. But there are days sometimes in the winter where, if we don't get a lot of sun, we have to supplement them with vitamins -- vitamin D particularly for sunshine, for not getting the sunshine, I mean. But, we just make an effort to make sure that these alpacas get in the sun. Get in the sun! If there's sun out during the day, they're in it. This little girl just got back from a show, and so I have to keep her in quarantine from the rest of the alpacas, because she may have picked up something at the show. Even still, I will put out her and her little group separate to make sure that she gets sunshine. And then I'll put out another group at a different time of day to make sure they get the sunshine. And if you look at the barn, you can see the barn is situated so that the exposure is to the south. So, they get sunshine almost all day long and particularly coming on the south side over there. In the summer, I actually move them towards the north because there's so much sun and it's a little bit cooler that way."
