Alpacas are domesticated animals originating from South America. Similar to llamas in appearance, alpacas are often kept in herds and are valued for their fiber, or fur. Alpacas have been domesticated for thousands of years and images of alpacas can be found in ancient Peruvian art. In general, alpacas are very social, gentle, and intelligent, and get along very well with humans as pets. Though all alpacas are capable of spitting, this behavior is generally reserved for other alpacas and rarely is aimed at people.

We're going to talk about how to take care of them, how to train them, how to halter train them, how to take care of them with food, what kind of food they need, how important their water is, how important it is to keep things really clean for them, how it is - how important it is keep them happy with each other, so that you don't have contention amongst the group. How important it is to let them be comfortable and trust you. I think as an Alpaca owner, trust is probably one of the most important things that you can establish because if you can establish trust with an Alpaca, you can have an Alpaca do just about anything that you want that Alpaca to do for you. It takes time, it takes energy, but it takes a lot of love for these animals to want to be able to do this. And that's what we have here is love for these Alpacas."
