on 8/2/2008 As well intended as Ms. Noah may be in sharing her "expert" knowledge on land hermit crab husbandry, as Expert Village has deemed her based on being an award winning teacher who has cared for land hermit crabs for 14 years, these videos are very misleading with regard to what necessitates proper care. There are too many corrections to point out here on each of Ms. Noah's videos so, if you are truly interested in providing care that gives your hermit crabs the opportunity for a happy, healthy and longer life, and you prefer to have pets that not only survive, but thrive, please visit landhermitcrabs.com. We look forward to meeting you!

on 8/2/2008 At least on this page she is mostly correct. I don't suggest using the saltwater conditioner she recommends, it is oksy, but it is too weak, and if you only use the reccomended dose, the water is barely more salty than it was in the first place. You CAN use that, but you have to use about 3 to 5 times the recommended dose, the bottle will get used up fast, you can buy a box of either API (Doc Wellfish) fresh water aquarium salt and use one teaspoon per 8 ounces, ignore the directions on the side, that IS for freshwater fish, after all. Or you can use any of the Marine aquarium salts, fpollow the directions on those. DO NOT use HBH soaking Salts for hermiut crabs, all it is is table salt in a new container, it contains the poisonous chemical iodide, your crab would be dead in a week. One other thing, she said it isn't necessary to provide salt, it is most definately imperitive to have salt water in a habitat. Almost all crab species NEED salt to live, the only one that doesn't need it is the Purple Pincher species, but they do need it when they are molting, so I would give it to them all the time too...

on 5/22/2009 Attention: anyone out there looking to keep a pet hermit crab, please do not listen to what this person says! I would Suggest referring to hermitcrabassociation.com or hermit-crabs.com Although some information this video provides is true, most is not. Crabs are not a "disposable pet" and should be treated with respect.

"Hi! I am Debbie with expertvillage.com on the water, you want to keep the water in the sponge very clean and very fresh. Again, there are things on the market now that are designed specifically for hermit crabs. They have this variety in salt water as well. You don’t have to do that, you can use just bottle of water and add some conditioners to it. This is the drinking water conditioner and this is the salt water conditioner. Salt water is really important for your crabs, they are not drinking it, but it helps them and aids them in their molting process and of course the drinking water conditioner makes sure that it takes out all the chlorination and makes it purer for your hermit crabs. Okay, along with changing out the food, every other day, but about every two days, you want to make sure you have fresh water in your hermit crabs dish, clean the sponge, just clean out the bowl and put some fresh water. If you use distilled water, then you don’t need to worry about conditioning. If you are using regular water, then you need to add some conditioner to it to take the chlorine out of the water and make a little bit healthier for your crab. There are waters on the market now and they are specifically designed for hermit crabs, but I am thinking just a bottle of water would work just as it will. Although, not totally necessary, you may want to add a second dish for water in your habitat that has salt water in the well, hermit crabs take in a little bit of salt water to maintain their health and it also has some minerals in it and aids in their molting process as well. So, although it is not completely necessary, it might be something you will look at to keep your hermit crabs as healthy as possible. "
