on 9/12/2009 hey animalarkgirl, debbie never said hermit crabs need humidity *because* they are cold blooded. she was just stating facts. 1) hermit crabs are cold blooded and 2) they need humidity. don't be so quick to jump on people when you yourself don't know what you're talking about

on 8/2/2008 that tank CANNOT maintain the proper humidity unless you live somewhere extremely tropic and don't have air conditioning. you need a glass tank with a lid. DO NOT spry you hermit crabs directly! they will stress them out and may cause them to drop limbs from stress or even DIE! check out www.hermitcrabassoci ation.com for the PROPER hermit crab care. these people have dedicated them selves to REAL hermit crab care.

on 8/2/2008 They also need correct temperature (70-85 degrees Fahrenheit.) Also, chlorine burms their gills (yes, they have gills.) It's easier to maintain humidity if you have a 10 gallon tank. To make sure you have the correct humidity (75-80%,) you should get a humidity gauge. To maintain temperature, get either a thermometer or a humidity gauge. "Hi! I am Debbie and we are talking about having hermit crabs as pets. Right now we are going to talk about how important it is to maintain humidity in your crab habitat. Crabs are crustaceans, they are cold blooded and they need lots of humidity and moisture to maintain a healthy status. One of the ways you can do that is in their water dish keep a sponge. This one happens to be a little sponge, a little star shaped sponge and any kind of sponge will work, but keeping that moist and that water dish full will maintain humidity in the habitat. It is really important to keep for a healthy crab. So, keep your water dish really clean and your sponges clean and the way you can do that just put them under a faucet, get them really wet, rinse them out and get all the debris off them and then put them back in the habitat. It is really important that you keep them clean and bacteria down to a minimum. One other thing you need to do is to keep the humidity high in the habitat is get a small spray bottle doesn’t matter what kind, and every morning give your little crabs a spray, get them out, you don’t want to spray more than once, if your are working with children tell them just one little spray is good and that keeps them moist, the humidity high, that also wakes them up a little bit and makes them become a little more active for if you want them to get out and play."
