on 8/2/2008 This chick doesn't know what she's talking about. That's way too humidity. It sounds like she's just guessing. The best way to keep up humidity is misting twice a day, and simply keeping a dripper system. You don't need it much higher than 50-60 percent most of the time. Also - her heat lamp is off on her tank, and her Chameleon looks stressed.

on 8/2/2008 Her heat lamp is on, but I agree she sounds ill-informed. Chameleons aren't from humid regions. 50-60% is great for them. I mean she is using the same Waterfall that I use and it has an additional compartment which houses a fog generator. It does not raise the humidity to 100% in a vented cage but it helps with the live plants and does move threw the cage easier with evaporation.

"NICOLE BRAGG: On behalf of Expert Village, I'm Nicole and I'm here to tell you about Veiled Chameleons. Now, since Veiled Chameleons are tropical animals, you need to provide a pretty high level of humidity for them. They like their humidity to be around at least 75%. More is better. Now, you can run a humidifier in the room that will help the room accumulate quite a bit of humidity, but this probably won't be enough for your chameleon. You might want to--what I do is I spray her down several times a day, I'll spray her down with the squirt bottle. The substrate that I've got in the bottom holds moisture really well, so even though she's got a fresh air habitat which allows evaporation, she still gets quite a bit of humidity. During the evening time, the humidity should rise, it should be around at least 80%. It's a very good idea to keep humidity gauges in your terrarium so you're able to judge how much humidity you're allowing your chameleon to have. Now, in Arizona, which is where I live, we don't have any humidity. So, I have to provide a lot of excess humidity for her. I have to make sure she's sprayed down all the time and I, also, can run a humidifier in the room where all of my reptiles are."
