"Now the next thing we're going to talk about is the proper substrate for your blood python. Well, what's substrate? Substrate is what we reptile people like to call the bedding of your reptile enclosure. It sounds a little bit more technical, a little bit more scientific. What we're going to talk about is we're going to talk about a couple of different kinds. There's your coco fiber, which is basically a shredded coconut husk, comes in a brick. Usually going to run you around three dollars to four dollars. Not very, it's very inexpensive. One of these bricks does a lot of space. You're going to put it in a gallon of warm water and just let it sit for a half an hour and it expands out. Very cost effective and it can be used dry as like a sandy kind of material or wet, as like a dirt, moist dirt to hold humidity. It's very versatile, very cheap, very easy to use. The second thing that I'd like to show you would be the Douglas Fir bark, which is going to be a large wood chip bark. This is going to be a little bit more expensive. It's going to run you somewhere around ten to twelve bucks a bag and as you can see the bags aren't very big. So, not the most cost effective thing once you get to an adult blood python and we're trying to do a large enclosure. In fact, a lot of people, when they get to the large enclosures for the blood pythons, since the blood pythons aren't a high humidity reptile and don't need to be keeping, kept in a vary moist environment, a lot of them just tend to end up using newspaper or paper towel, as it's very easy to clean and it's very inexpensive and you can cover large areas with it. Me personally, I like display animals. I like to make the cage look as close to real and as wild as possible, so I prefer the core, the coco bedding or the Douglas Fir bark."
