Video Transcript

"First thing we're going to talk a little bit about is how to choose the right blood python for you. Now, you're probably going to end up buying it from a pet store or maybe from a pet expo, a reptile show, or possibly even on-line from a breeder, in which case you want to make sure that you find a reputable breeder and you gets lots of photos of your snake before you purchase it. But once it is in your hand, the thing that you want to be looking for is you want to make sure that the snake is active, curious. You want to make sure he's not just hanging limply and not moving around. You want to make sure that his eyes are clear and not clouded over or misty or anything like that. You want to make sure that he seems to have good muscle tone, he's strong. You want to check his mouth for any discolorations or a loosely hanging bottom jaw or the patch of skin down there, if it's starting to inflate a little bit. Also make sure that his nose is clear and there's no build-up or crustiness. These can all be signs of respiratory infections and we want to stay away from that if you can. Also you want to check his vent. Make sure that it's clean and clear, there's no discoloration or build-up, doesn't look like he's blocked up in any way, shape or form. Again, we're just checking to make sure he's overall going to be a healthy snake for you. We don't want you buying something, taking it home and not being pleased with it. Of course, always make sure that you find him attractive and pleasing to the eye. What good is a blood python if you don't find him pretty."
