"Okay, so we decided to get get a Spotted Python. How do we pick the right one for you? Well, first you have got to find one. You know check your local pet stores, local reptile stores, local reptile expositions, or reptile shows. Spotted Pythons are pretty readily available if you have to go online, you can do that as well. Make sure you are finding a reputable breeder. When you get the Spotted Python in your hand, you want to be checking for any damaged scales any where on the body. You want to make sure all of the scales look clean and good and intact. He does not have any old shed stuck to him or anything. Make sure he is active and inquisitive. This guy is moving around and smelling. His eyes are clear; it is not cloudy or closed up or gunked over with anything. You also want to check his vent and make sure the vent is not blocked up or discolored in any way, shape, or form. Again, you want to make that he has an overall good appearance. Make sure his color is good, something that you find attractive. Make sure he seems to have good muscle tone. When he gets his tail around you, it should not be able to get off so easily. He should have a good grip on you. Make sure that his mouth does not have any discoloration or it is not hanging limply open or anything like that. Also make sure his nostrils are clear and they do not have any gunk. These are all possible sines of health problems that we want to avoid."
