"Hi, today we're talking about native sounds, that budgies make. Most of the sounds, that these little guys make, is this chirping that you hear here. They do do some whistles and calls. Some of their talking does sound a little conversational but the males, and some females, will actually learn to talk. It sounds very parrot like, it's hard to understand exactly what they are saying but these guys will, if you speak to them and carry them around, and have kind of an intimate relationship with them, they'll have sort of a garbaldi conversational "hi Bob," or whatever you've named your bird. These guys kind of have a constant chatter going on. If you only have one, you might have three or four hours, during the day, where you hear this guy sort of chirping and talking to themselves and carrying on. If you've got two or three of them, they'll be more hours, during the day, where they seem to carry on and on. I'd say if you have, upwards of five, there's probably never going to be silence in your house, unless it's dark. These guys are pretty social creatures and so the more of them, you have, the more noise you're going to have and the more chirping. Generally a tolerable balance, for most people, is between one and three, of these birds. Just to sort of keep the noise down. They're not decibel loud but if you've got the television on, you're definitely going to hear these guys in the background. Your neighbors aren't going to hear them, you can have an apartment complex and not have any problems but certainly if you've got one of these birds in the same room and you're trying to listen to a radio show or listen to a video clip, on your computer, this guy is going to dominate, almost. The more noise, these guys love to go on, if the vacuum cleaner is turned on, almost in a competitive type fashion. If you get on the phone, again, they think you're talking to them, they'll sort of compete and have their sort of little chirping conversation. They've got a very pleasant chirp and squawk kind of conversational rolling tone. It's fairly soothing. They have a little bit of a call, they'll call out to you, which is a little bit more piercing but overall these birds have a pretty quiet and relaxed demeanor overall, vocally anyways."
