"Hi my name is Sarah and I’m coming to you from Petland in Pinborough Pines, Florida today and on behalf of expertvillage.com, I am going to speak with you today about how to buy a pet bird. One of the things to consider when you are thinking about bringing a new bird into your household is whether or not you have the time and money to properly care for the bird. Most birds require much more upkeep than many people think and it is very important that you understand what you are getting into before you purchase your bird. You need to understand that after you purchase your bird you should get it to a qualified avian veterinarian as soon as possible after purchase for a wellness exam and possibly some wellness blood work. You can look up a list of qualified avian veterinarians at www.aav.org which is the Association of Avian Veterinarians website. Upon bringing your bird to a qualified avian veterinarian, the vet will do a full physical exam and possibly recommend a gram stain of the feces which checks to see if the proper bacteria are being passed by your bird and what might also be recommend is some wellness blood work to check CBC, or complete blood count, a full chemistry profile which checks the internal organs and also a number of different tests to screen for communicable parrot diseases. You should be prepared for the cost of these after purchasing your bird. If you would like more information on the animal hospital that I work at, you can visit our website at www.extracareanimalhospital.net. If you would like more information on Petland in Pinborough, Pines, Florida, you can visit their website at www.petland.com. "
