"Hi, today we are talking about the pricing of parakeets. Depending on the species of parakeet that you get, they can be upwards of $100 down to the common budgie parakeet, or the American budgie that is kept in captivity. So, generally around $10-$20 depending upon where you get it. Breeders usually don't charge more than $10. If you buy a hand fed baby, somebody spend a lot of time and effort, weeks in just caring for this bird out of the nest, you can consider maybe paying $25. It is actually one of the great things about these birds, is that they are so affordable. They are easy to care for, there is not a lot of expense involved in these birds overall. So, the initial purchase might be 20 bucks and then all the other accessories needed. They are so small, they don't eat a whole lot, so food isn't very expensive for these guys. They do not require an enormous cage or an aviary, if you only have one or two. So caging isn't very expensive, you can generally pick one up at your pet store for anywhere from $45 to $60. And they generally don't require a whole lot of veterinary cares. It is generally recommended that you take every pet that you have into the Vet, exotic Vet that has experience with these guys, to look them over in a more physical way that you can. They pick them up and check under their wings, and make sure that they do not have any lumps or bumps. But they do not require any shots or anything like that. So, it is just the Vet visit and whatever your Vet charges for a quick look over on these guys. So, overall they are very very affordable pets, especially when you compare them to a dog or a cat. They are a little bit more expensive than probably keeping a hamster or a rat or something like that. But, overall here initial price, taking care of these guys is probably about $50 to $75 just up front. "
