"Hi, my name is Elizabeth and I am speaking on behalf of Expert Village. Today we are going to talk about consistency in training parrots. This is Missy bird, and Missy bird has a few behavior problems, which is why she pulled her feathers. Training can help modify some of their behavior problems, so I'm working with Missy bird today. And consistency, what that basically means, is that every time you do something with a parrot when you are training them, you want to do it the exact same way. So if you say "step up" you want to make sure you do it the exact same way. So if I were to tell Missy bird to step up, I do it the exact same way each time, so I would say good bird and then set her back down. So each time that we do things with Missy bird, we are going to do it the exact same way. You want to try to train, if you can, in the exact same environment, in the same situation, until that behavior is well learned and then you can change environments, change location. You don't want to say "step up" one time, then "come here" then next time. Or you're gonna confuse the animal. So just make sure that each time that you've decided that you are going to do a certain behavior that you are consistent with the words that you use, the environment that you do it in, and the manner in which you have asked that behavior from the animal."
