"We are going to talk about motivation. So what are you going to do to make your bird do what you want it to do. There are several different types of motivation. The one that seems to work best with most birds is food. So what you will do is, you will put food in the birds food bowl, and you will figure out what its favorite foods are, and then you will remove that from the normal part of their diet and only use it for training to get a particular behavior. Alternatively, you can do it in the morning when your bird is hungry, or last thing in the afternoon, after a short fast in the afternoon so that your bird is hungry. Not all birds require food for training, some birds respond to other types of positive reinforcement, such as amazons and cockatoos, will a lot of times just respond to your voice, your excitement, your enthusiasm. Just seeing that you are excited and happy with what the bird has just done will encourage that behavior from that animal."
