" Hi! I am Dr. Adrienne Mulligan and I am here on behalf of expertvillage.com and today we are going to just talk a little about sending your pet, may be across the country on an airplane, and they usually go in cargo if you are not with them. So in addition to doing your homework you really want to do your homework and find the right carrier for your pets, so ask a lot of questions about what happens with your pet. But the most important thing is that your pet is comfortable and you need to talk to your veterinarian about whether or not your pet should receive anything before hand. Most of the times, these days we do not recommend using sedatives because it can affect their blood pressure and that can become serious if no one is attending to them. So we mostly are recommending things that might them drowsy like Dramamine or like Benadryl and these are things that you should talk to your veterinarian about and definitely get the right dose from your veterinarian to use but those will make them a little bit drowsy and they are safer to use. Plus the other thing is that water and food are important things to provide but you do not want the water to spill all inside their crate. So most places if you attach the water and food to their crate they will, in break time give them some water and food and you have to ask those questions from your carrier. "
