" Hi! I am Dr. Mulligan and I am here on behalf of expertvillage.com and one of the biggest concerns about traveling with your cat, no matter what method, whether it is a car, truck or airplane. It is hard to keep your cat calm and keep them from vocalizing because one of the biggest things cats do is yell and vocalize when they are in a crate and when they are moving in a vehicle. And there is no real good answer for that. Everybody asks their veterinarian about tranquilizers and tranquilizers are very unpredictable, they might work and they might not work and they may make it worse and so it can be very difficult to find just the right thing that works for your cat. So there are a lot of different things on the market. You can try a tranquilizer from your veterinarian but you might also want to try some natural things. There are lot of natural products out there like melatonin, which is just a hormone that can help calm them down like an antihistamine like Benadryl, diphenhydramine that can help them feel a little bit drowsy and then there is a spray specifically for cats that is a hormone spray and it is pheromones and actually you can spray that in the crate all inside and that is supposed to create a calming effect like when they were young and nursing because it is the pheromones that comes from the mother’s milk. So there are ways to try to help your cat be calmer when they are traveling in their crate. "
