" Hi! I am Dr. Adrienne Mulligan on behalf of expertvillage.com we are going to talk a little bit today about flying with your cat. Now when you get on an airplane with your cat, the best way to take him with you is to have him with you and under the seat in front of you. It is not very safe to travel with your cat in cargo and when you have them with you under the seat they have very specific requirements about the type of crate. They used to use the plastic type crates but I do not think that they allow that anymore. Most of the time, you are going to need to go to a local pet store and get the soft crates that can be smooshed down and gotten under the seat. Now cats will vocalize a little bit and people are concerned about that and they always ask about sedatives. And as long as your cat is with you then it is usually fairly safe to ask your veterinarian to prescribe a sedative to keep them quiet during the flight and during the flight you just want to be sure you can arouse them, kind of wake him up a little bit and may be put in some food and see if they will eat it but you just want to keep them aroused a little bit instead of letting them fall into a deep sleep and that is the most important part about that so, while traveling on a plane is going to be best done with them under the seat in front of you where you can keep an eye on them.
