" Hi! I am Dr. Adrienne Mulligan. I am the owner of Camp Verde Veterinary Clinic. I am here today on behalf of expertvillage.com, and I am here to talk to you about taking care of cats with critical conditions, critical emergencies and health issues. Sometimes cats will get themselves into trouble with strings or thread, what we call long linear foreign bodies, and they will swallow them. And they will go on down, and they will end up coming out the other end, and you will see one hanging up the other end. The last thing you ever want to do in this case is to pull that string. So you do not want to cut it off, you do not want to pull it, you want to get that kitty to the vet as soon as possible, because that string could easily be all around up in his intestines, and if you pull it then it is going to shred his intestines, and your kitty would not live through that. So strings, if they are out this way, you might be able to pull them out gently, but if they are here, you do not want to try to pull them out. So, strings are a big thing with cats; they certainly enjoy getting a hold of them and getting in trouble. "
