" Hi! I am Dr. Adrienne Mulligan. I am the owner of Camp Verde Veterinary Clinic. I am here today on behalf of expertvillage.com, and I am here to talk to you about taking care of cats with critical conditions, critical emergencies and health issues. Now God forbid you should ever have to deal with a kitty that is in such bad condition, that they have been hit by a car or has trauma such that, they are not breathing, maybe do not have a heart rate, and are pretty much in death, and you want to try to get him back to stable and get him to the vet. The main thing to know is that a cats heart rate is much, much faster than a human, it is like 180-200. And so when you are doing chest compressions, you can just have them on your side, and just really do a lot do a lot of compressions, and then take a minute and put your mouth over their nose and mouth and blow, and then do a lot of chest compressions again…and if you need to, get both hands on each side. And really, the idea is you want to keep that heart pushing blood around as much as you can, until their brain kind of comes to a little bit, and then again you want them… and then you go back, and if you have two people, it will be better if one person is doing rapid chest compressions and the other is doing the aerating of the lungs.
