Learn to Care for Outdoor Cats

"Hi I’m Dr. Adrienne Mulligan on behalf of Expert Village.com and I would like to say a word about outdoor kitties and their environment and the needs that they may have. A lot of people do keep their cats outdoors and don’t let them in the house so they need some shelter. That is definitely an important part for them. It just depends on what you have around your house. If you have a barn, that is a nice place for cats to be and if you have hay, they will make their own warm places to be in the hay. My father actually for old cats set up a living box in an outdoor shed and he put a warming light there so that at night there was actually warmth out there for him because he was an old guy. They need to have fresh water and sometimes you forget about that with outdoor cats because they might find it somewhere else but they should have clean fresh water so keep a water bowl outside your door that you can keep control of so the water is still fresh and a good bottled water or reverse osmosis water so they are drinking healthy water as well. Keep their food bowl close to your house too so that you can always be sure you are providing them with food. Now granted, most people want their cats to go catch mice and that is a good way for them to eat and that’s not a bad idea but for the most part for them to get complete nutrition, you want to provide them with some cat food as well. So a litter box may or may not be necessary unless you want your garden to stay clean. If you would like your yard and garden to stay clean, you might want to provide them with a litter box as well out there. For outdoor cats, you can always do a garage environment for them and maybe a kitty door in the door part not the car door but the door that goes out for humans. You could set out a kitty door. Then you could have them to be able to come in and be safe from wild animals. "
