" Hi this is Elise McMahon with expertvillage.com and this video series we are going to talking about flea and tick prevention. If you like to find more about my services you can visit my website canineheadstart.com. So in this short clip we are going to be talking about what to do with your tick once you have pull them off of your dog. Ticks have hard bodies. Topically just stepping on them is not going to kill a tick. If you are outside and you just remove your hiking and you remove a tick from your dog probably the best thing you can do is take two hard surfaces two rocks and actually with a lot of force squish the rocks over with the tick in between them. If it is a blotted tick then you probably going to get a little explosion or blood that is kind of yucky. But if you just pull it off your dog and throw in on the ground then the next time your dog walks by there he is probably going to pick the tick or the next dog is going to pick up a tick. If you are in the house and you remove the tick from your dog probably one of the easies thing you can do especially if you are in a gloomy session and you might pick out one or two ticks if you just been out for a walk is if you get a glass of water. Some people would put liquid detergent in the water but I find water itself works just find. So lets say I'm looking on the dog and I find a tick I would twist and pull like we talked about pull it out and then I would deposit the tick into the water. Often times when you are pulling a tick out you are going to get some hair as well. You want to be very sure that when you drop that tick in there that he is not attach to your fingers and that he is actually floating around there in the glass of water. Once you got the tick there he is pretty much going to stay there you are not going to leave the water lying around you wouldn't want somebody to come up and drink it by accidentally nor thought you don't want the tick to be able to climb out but this is a good respectable that you can use when you are grooming the dog to just be putting the ticks in as you are pulling them out. You then can take the glass of water up to your kitchen if you have a garbage disposable run it through the garbage disposal it is a good way of getting rid of ticks. You can also flush them down the toilet. Again you want to make sure that they haven't they are not able to climb back up on the side of the glass or the side of the toilet bowl. You want to be careful though when you dispose of the ticks and you have been handling it and again you want to be very careful to throughly wash your hands and clean out any bloody infected areas that you might find on your dog."
