"Hi I’m Dr. Adrienne Mulligan on behalf of Expert Village.com and I would like to talk to you a little bit about the food that you are going to be putting into your kitty’s environment and home. For the most part, most foods whether they are over the counter or through your veterinarian are fine as long as your cat tolerates them but cat’s are known to throw up frequently and a lot of times it’s the diet so you may have to try different diets to see what works. But basically if your cat has problems such as being overweight or any diseases there are very special diets that they need to be on. So it is really important that you provide the correct food for your cat or for your cat’s special needs. The other thing about foods is they come in different shapes and sizes and this is a dental diet so it is a very large piece that they have to really crunch into and this helps scrape their teeth and keep their teeth free of tartar, whereas this one is a little triangular shape and cats get very attached to the shape of their food. Sometimes it is very difficult to get a cat to change from eating a triangular shaped food to a round shaped food. It may not be the taste at all. It is just the shape and the feel of it. So it is really important that when you feed your cat and when you change foods that you always change foods slowly. You should mix them half and half and the biggest trick is that when you mix your food half and half, that you don’t refill the bowl until it’s empty and then you give them another mixture because if they are picking out what they like and you keep refilling it, they will keep on picking out what they like and then you’ll never get them changed over to the new diet. So wait until the bowl is empty before you refill it with the mixture and pretty soon they will figure out and get used to the new diet. "
