"Hi this is Dr. Greg McDonald and I am here from Expert Village.com and we are talking about how to take care of your cat’s teeth today. One of the really exciting products that we have right now is something that I really love because it is a special diet that actually makes your cat need less dentistry in his later life. Science Diet, called Hill’s as well, has put out a special diet that is specially designed for cleaning your cat’s teeth. You have to feed your cat anyway and so if you feed him a super good nutrition diet that as they bite into it it cleans their teeth. Now you have really a triple win. The other thing that I really like about this diet is that most of the cats like it and it comes with a 100 percent guarantee from the company so if your cat does not like it you can bring it back. When I am in my examination room and I find some dental disease in a cat that doesn’t really need medical care today, I sell them a bag of TD. It is a prescription diet and you can only get it through Hill’s. It is 100 percent guarantee. As the animal bites down into it, it cleans their teeth and knocks tartar of their teeth and it also stimulates their gums. It is the only diet that is recognized by the American Veterinarian Dental Association as actually helping gum disease. So when I send this home I show the gum disease to the owners and then I have them buy a bag and I say when you are out of this bag of food, I want you to look in and you make the decision if you are going to come back and have another bag or not. Since cats are very finicky, it is usually hard to get them to eat a diet like this. Cats seem to really love it so it is a triple win. The way it is designed most of the hard foods kind of shatter when they bite into it. This is like shredded wheat. As they bite into it, it slowly separates and it actually stimulates their gums and cleans the tartar off of their teeth. It is one of the most effective tools that we have as veterinarians to avoid having to put an animal under anesthesia in its later life to clean a mouth that is really diseased. So ask your veterinarian; it’s called Hill’s TD and I think you will be very glad you did. "
