"There are several things you can do to help your dog relax before you leave and also during your trip. These can include massage; herbs, music and having your dog wear a gentle leader in walking him. Some dogs like to have their ears massaged. You can try this by gently squeezing your dog’s ears and then pulling outward towards the tips. Some people find that herbs can be relaxing and calming for their dogs. There are many mixtures available and may include peppermint tea, Valerian root extract and ginger root extract. Don’t forget music. Dogs like humans will have different tastes in music but I never met a dog that doesn’t like Mozart. This is what is called a gentle leader. It is something that you use when you walk your dog and it actually calms them down a lot. It is almost like when they were a puppy their mother would put their mouth over the dog’s muzzle to calm the puppy down and so I will show you how to put that on your dog now. Pip dress, good girl. Over the muzzle area and then back behind the head and check the areas on the top and bottom. Just make sure that it is not too tight and basically as you are walking you can guide the dog like a horses head versus pulling on a leash here and a collar. A dog will tend to pull away from you. Then you just hook your leash to the loop at the bottom and that’s how you put it on. Watch me! "
