"Let’s talk about modifying a dog car harness. First I will show you how it works. You put the harness on the dog and then you take the strap, you hook to the harness and then this end of the strap you hook into a standard seatbelt receptacle. Now there are a couple of reasons why you might want to modify this. The first one is the strap that came with the harness is fabric and some dogs might want to chew or bite this so you can spread a bitter apple on it and that will work for most dogs. The second reason is that some dogs like mine will discover how to bite the seat belt receptacle and eject the seat belt strap so you may want to replace this with chain. So you can go to your hardware store and get the appropriate gage of chain and then you get what is called quick lengths. You need to get two of these quick lengths. Basically they are just metal and they are like the letter U with a break in them and basically you just stick one of these on each end of the chain and then you stick one onto the harness and tighten it and then you stick the other one onto the seat. Usually there is a child’s safety loop at the very bottom of the seat and that is how you would modify the seat harness. "
