Learn About a Traveling First-Aid Kit for Dogs

" Hi! This is Elise McMahon for Expert Village and in this video series we’re talking about how to travel with your dog. It’s a really good idea when you’re traveling with your dog to bring your first aid kit, the canine first aid kit with you, a lot of the things you’re going to find in there are in fact very similar to what you would be putting in your very own first aid kit. Just I have got of couple of items out here. It’s always good to have everything together in the bag, some sort of bag it doesn’t have to be a bag setup specifically for canines but having stuff together and some sort of bag that you can just grab and go and then you’re not running around the house trying to gather everything at the last minute. So here I’m just going to go over the couple of the things. This is oral electrolytes, if you’re out hiking with your dog in the summer time and you need to replenish electrolytes, it’s always a good idea to have some electrolytes on you. We also carry them around for ourselves and don’t always think about the dogs. Also here we’ve got an antiseptic anti-itch spray so again this would be more sort of the summer time travel with your dog but if you get your dog to a place that there’s a lot of biting bugs and or the dog is stressed and he’s chewing on himself, this is always a good thing to have, some anti-itch spray. If your dog cuts or injures himself couple of things you’re going to want to have in hand, this is iodine, this is a Betadine skin cleaner and you also will want to have some pads and tape if your dogs cuts themselves and really good handy thing to use with dogs is vet wrap, it’s called vet wrap and this is actually a self adhesive tape. So you unpeel it there’s no glue here at all, you want to unpeel it and then when you wrapping it back around it just stays. So this is a really good thing to have on hand as well as the gauze pads. If your dog injures himself on the foot let’s say you are hiking with your dog or you are walking in the city and it cuts his pad you might want to have some sort of soft boot. You can wrap the foot up and make sure the dog doesn’t take the foot wrapping off. You can put the pad, the foot in a boot. You’re going to want to make sure you have got a boot that fits your dog’s foot. Tweezers are always the good thing to have on hand if your dog is in a place and for some reason their ears get irritated having an ear cleanser or cotton and an ear ointment on hand, it should always be in your first aid kit, having a small towel is a good idea to carry on your first aid kit and then also obviously a thermometer you want to have a thermometer with you in your first aid kit.
