"Hi this is Elise McMahon with Expert Village.com and in this video series we are talking about taking your dog for a walk. If you would like to find out more about my services, you can visit my website at www.canineheadstart.com. So in this short clip we are going to be talking about approach to a street and teaching your dog how to wait at the street before you go into it. Right here we are using a driveway in a street that doesn’t have a lot of differentiation. A good place to practice this however is say in a city street or in a town street where you actually have a curb because it is much clearer to the dog the difference between the curb and the street. Right now we are going to be working with Tai here and I am just going to be letting him know when I want him to wait before he approaches the street. So we will work with him and we will explain how it went afterwards. Come on Tai, let’s go. Come on. Ready. Come on, let’s go. Tai, heel. Tai wait. Good boy. Let’s go. Let’s go Tai. Good boy. This way. So what we did is we made a couple of different approaches up to the street. I wanted to have the dog so he was walking with me. You can see that every time he forged forward I turned around with hi. Until we got up to the street I asked him to wait and we continued out onto the road. Again, the best way to practice this with your dog is when you have a curb something that is a little more obvious to the dog when he is actually going from the sidewalk into the street."
