Training Your Dog to Play Dead

" Hi! I’m Tracy Tenner with Better Behavior Dog Training here at Extra Care Animal Hospital in Davie, Florida. We’re here on behalf of expertvillage.com and we’re going to be teaching you how to teach your dogs tricks. The next trick we’re going to be teaching you is bang or play dead. This is Ed he does not know how to do this yet but we do know that he knows how to roll over, so we’re going to use that to our benefit and say, “bang” as we put him to his back and give him a little tiny piece of treat. The hand signal is like this…bang while he’s on his back, good boy, we’re feeding and then generally we will lower his head to the ground. What we’re going to do is use the treat ask him to lie down and once he’s in the down position we’re going to ask him to start to roll but we’re going to use the word “bang” move him to his back and feed the treat while he’s on his back so his reward is coming immediately while he’s on his back in the down position.
