Training A Dog to Crawl

" Hi! I’m Tracy Tenner with Better Behavior Dog Training here at Extra Care Animal Hospital in Davie, Florida. We’re here on behalf of expertvillage.com and we’re going to be teaching you how to teach your dogs tricks. Alright the next trick that we’re going to attempt with Ed is called, “crawl” or “commando crawl”. The dog obviously does that in a down position and we want to again use a small soft treat that your dog likes and can eat very quickly. You’ll see that we’ll be holding the treat right where the dog’s nose, should be when he acts appropriately so we’re asking him to sit and lie down and then we’re going to put the treat right at his nose and we’re going to ask him to crawl and very slowly pull it away from him. Crawl…slowly moving the treat right in front of his face and ask him to crawl, good boy, down, crawl, good boy! And when we see him trying and putting one foot in front of the other we’re going to praise into the skies and give him a treat for that behavior.
