Training A Dog to Beg

" Hi! I’m Tracy Tenner with Better Behavior Dog Training here at Extra Care Animal Hospital in Davie, Florida. We’re here on behalf of expertvillage.com and we’re going to be teaching you how to teach your dogs tricks. Okay, here we have Doc again and we’re going to teach him to sit up, I call it teddy bear, many people refer to it as beg, sit pretty, it really doesn’t matter what words you use as long as you’re consistent with them and use the same word all the time. But basically what we want Doc to do is to sit up on his haunches with his front paws in the air, again I say teddy bear, teddy…and I hold the treat just above his nose so that he simply has to lift his front feet in the air and balance on his rear end, teddy, teddy, good. Now, you’ll notice that if you hold up the treat too high the dog is going to jump up for it, we don’t want that so we lower the treat from a sitting position, teddy…raise the treat just high enough for your dog to put his feet in the air. Sit, teddy.
