"So if your going to be walking with your dog in the woods you either on leash or off leash your just going to be out in public with your dog, it's really important that your dog has some form of permanent ID. The most common now a days are either a tattoo either found in couple different places one could be inside of the ear, sometimes there inside of the growing and then there's also microchips, microchips are little tiny devices are planted under the skin. There typically planted right over the shoulder you can get your vet to do it, a lot of times it'll be clinics at shelters but it's painless, a lot of times breeders do it with there puppies, they'll implant the device right in the shoulder and if the dog is lost there are scanners that all shelters many, many, many vets have, scanner they run the scanner over and it will pick up the ID of your dog, if you registered your microchip then you can actually they can call the company and they'll give you, you can register your name, your vets name, your neighbor's name, anybody I think they usually list up to about 3 to 4 phone numbers and it will make it easer for you dog to get back to you. Ideally your dog is not going off and go missing, if your dog is not reliable off leash they shouldn't be walking off leash but there's always a chance of something can happen you drive to the woods, you open your car and your dog is so enthusiastic they jump out and run off. In that case you hope somebody will find them and take them to place that have a scanner and your dog will be identified and got back to you."
