"General care of a dog. As far as what goes into owning a dog varies from owner to owner. But in my opinion, I truly look at owning a dog similar to taking care of a member of your family. My recommendation for taking care of a dog starts from the minute you bring your puppy home. I would recommend contacting your local veterinarian. I prefer holistic vets, but any vet you go to will generally administer a series of three to four visits where they will administer basic puppy shots. The final visit will be the administration of the rabies vaccine. In Arizona, rabies is administered once every three years, but this does vary state to state. As far as other general grooming and taking care of your dog after the vet visits, I would highly recommend brushing your dog two to three times a week. This administers a close bond with your dog, as well as keeping the coat clean from any tics or mites. I would recommend seeing a groomer every two to three months to ensure excessive paw hair is cut, as well as anal sacks are popped. Brushing teeth is recommended twice a week to cut down on cavities and gingivitis, as well as proper health and nutrition and feeding, which I will talk about in a upcoming segment. "
