"I’m Tracy Tenner with Better Behavior Dog Training at Extra Care Animal Hospital in Davie, Florida. I am here today on behalf of Expert Village.com at the Tri County Humane Society in Boca Raton, Florida, where I have volunteered as a trainer and a behaviorist. So if you are ready, let’s go ahead and get started. When you are ready to go and choose your new pet, it is important to research as many shelters as you possibly can within your area. Most areas there are many shelters that you can visit, all certainly having different animals in each shelter. Some of the things to look for when choosing the correct shelter are cleanliness. How does it smell when you come in? Overall well being of the pets. Do they seem to be overcrowded? Do they seem to be understaffed? Are there volunteers there walking the dogs who can tell you a little bit about their personalities and about their temperament? Do the dogs look healthy to you? Are their eyes clear? Do they seem happy? Do they seem aggressive? All of these things are important to consider when checking out the different shelters in your area. Remember there is nothing wrong with checking shelters because surely you will see different dogs in every single one. So we want to find as many shelters as we can and then choose which is the right one for you to adopt from.
