"I’m Tracy Tenner with Better Behavior Dog Training at Extra Care Animal Hospital in Davie, Florida. I am here today on behalf of Expert Village.com at the Tri County Humane Society in Boca Raton, Florida where I have volunteered as a trainer and a behaviorist. We are here today to help you learn how to pick the perfect pet for you and your family. So if you are ready, let’s get started. One of the important things before you go to the Humane Society is to do your homework and to do your research. Go to the library, to the internet, read and learn as much as you possibly can about dogs in general and about purebred dogs specifically. When you get to the shelter you will find purebred dogs as well as mixed breed dogs. There are general things that you can learn about each purebred dog that you can almost expect to be there when you find that particular dog. Although we can’t predict exactly what a dog will be like based only on his breed, we can generalize to a certain extent and have certain expectations of a breed or a mix of a certain breed. For example, if you choose to adopt a Jack Russell Terrier or a Daschund, you can expect some digging. If you choose to adopt a Border Collie or a Border Collie Mix or an Australian Shepherd, you can expect a very energetic dog that is going to be doing a lot of bouncing around at your house. So make sure that you do your homework and learn everything you can about each breed before you decide what you want to look for once you get to the shelter.
