Series Summary

Since all dogs are inherently wild animals they all need some sort of training to become accustomed to their surroundings and the rules of your home. The most difficult part of this process is communicating with your dog in a civil, non-violent way that lets them know you are boss and this is the rule. By praising positive behavior and correcting or ignoring negative behavior you are able to show your pet what is acceptable and what is not in a loving way that does not make them fear you. This creates a relationship between you and your dog that is based on love and not temperament.

This video series will show you lots of tips, information and techniques to help you train your Husky to sit, lie down, come to you and many other things. You will learn how positive reinforcement is more effective than physical punishment and the best way to correct your dog when they are misbehaving as well as how to get them accustomed to the world and the distractions in it.

on 4/13/2009 Hi,
Currently, I live in Connecticut but I'll be moving to Tennessee soon. My mom's going to let me get a dog, and I was looking at huskies. I know they take alot of work and are better for active people.

Now, I'm not an active person myself, but I just had a coupple questions. The first being, I know there are alot of huskies down south dispite their better off in the cold weather. But if I were to get one in the south, how can I keep it happy, and not so hot; is an AC okay to use?

Second, Some huskies are lazy, I've seen from alot of youtube videos, and in real life. Is that okay for them? I do really want a huskie and I want to get more active by owning one. Will the dogs incourage you to be more active with them? If you arn't, will they become lazy too?

Third, My mom is against kennel training, she says it's like jail, but if the dog is being 'bad' when we're not at home such as taring apart furniture, what's another way we can teach it to behave accordingly?

Fourth, Are huskies good house dogs, will they be alright if people come over, and about how much time out of the day do they require attention?

Fifth, Two dogs that I've had, a lab, and a Sheapard lab mix, were able to be off the leash outside, and they stayed around us. Will a huskie take off and never come back? If it runs away, will it look for it's way home?

Sixth, What is the life-span and adverage height and weight the dog should be? How much exercize should it get? What type of food should you give it, and how many times a day?

Seventh, How often should you bathe a dog, and do huskies normally like water?

Last, currently, I'm living with a friend who owns a black lab. I've taught her a coupple tricks such as placing her head down when told, and grabbing a treat to bring it back to herself before she eats it. How much harder is it to train a huskie to do simple tricks like these than a black lab?

I'm trying to learn as much as I can before I get one, so thanks for your time, hope to get some answers before June. :D

" Hi! I’m Melanie McLeroy with Taurus Training for Expert Village, and today we’re going to talk about training dogs. We’re going to work with a husky today. This is Gloria, and she is a wonderful example of a husky. In fact, she’s the sweetest one I’ve ever met. Now there are some breed characteristics to consider if you’re thinking and getting a husky. One thing is that they’re basically bred to run, so they like to run away. It’s very important to start working very early with your husky puppy on the recall command. Huskies are also bred to work with humans, but humans who are willing to give a lot of direction. So it’s important also to be a very good leader with your husky from a young age. If you haven’t already, please check out the pre-training videos, particularly the ones on relationship and leadership before you decide to get a husky or to work with your husky. So Gloria, the wonderful sweet husky is going to learn how to pay attention to her name. "
