"Hi! I'm Melanie McElroy with Taurus Training for Expert Village and today we are going to talk about training dogs. So let's talk about teaching Corgi's to sit. Corgi's are wonderful animals but there are some things about Corgi's that make them a little bit different than other dogs. Well as you can see they got these little squatty bodies and these cute little short legs. Well a Welsh Pembroke Corgi teaching them to sit can also be a little bit difficult because they are herding dogs and a lot of times herding dogs are bred to work independently of people. It's not necessarily true for Corgi's but herding dogs also really focus in on what they want to chase. So it's very easy for them to become distracted because anything that moves out in the environment they instantly attend to. So first of all be sure your Corgi is paying attention to you. So good, that's very nice behavior so I am going to reward it. So there are a couple of different ways to teach a Corgi to sit. One thing you can do is wait until they offer the behavior, mark it and then reward randomly. The other thing you can do is actually use food as a lure to teach the dog what behavior you want. Giddy, good! Now I marked that because he looked at me. Now this Corgi is getting pretty distracted by the cars around him. I am going to try to get him up and moving. Okay. Let's go. Yippee! Sit, good. Now I have to wait until he finishes his treat there. Oh, here comes a dog. Sit, good! Notice how I moved into him a little bit. I'm using his own space to show him what I want him to do. Now I didn't reward him then because remember we want our reinforcement to be random. So here comes a dog in the distance so this is a great opportunity to use the food as a lure to get his attention. Okay, okay. As I said, Corgi's love to hone in what's going by. Okay, okay, okay! Good boy. Sit. Good! So there I used the food a little bit as a lure at the end to give him a little help, speed him up a little bit. That's teaching a Corgi to sit. We will go on to the down command next. "
