"My name is Phil Hoelcher and this morning and we are going to be talking a little bit about the sport of Schutzhund. We are going to try to show you a little bit about all three phases; the tracking, obedience and protection and give you an idea today a little bit of what the sport is all about. Remember there are three levels in Schutzhund; we have discussed that a little bit, Schutzhund 1, Schutzhund 2, and Schutzhund 3. You have to do all three phases and all three Schutzhund 1, 2 and 3. The first Schutzhund 1 has tracking, obedience and protection, Schutzhund 2 has tracking, obedience and protection and Schutzhund 3 also has the same. They all have 300 points that you can achieve; a 100 in tracking, a 100 in obedience and a 100 in protection. Again the Schutzhund 1 is supposed to be the beginning level and the easiest and that is to get your feet wet. But remember even before you can go for Schutzhund 1 you must first have your dog get what is called a traffic title and that is he must prove that he is okay around other people, he does an obedience routine, dogs walk around him and cars go by, people on bicycles, honk horns, crowds, jogger runs by and if any of these things he reacts to negatively, he is not even allowed to go for his Schutzhund 1 until he achieves that title. So there is quite a lot of work involved before you can even start going into Schutzhund.
