"The second thing you want to do is really warm up their body temperature. At this age you want to make sure they are nice and warm. Especially if you get puppy at this age they cannot regulate their own body temperature so you need to warm them up. What we use here at the shelter is something that is fairly inexpensive and that everyone has, we use socks with rice in them and we can wash these but you just feel it with rice and put it in the microwave until it is a nice body temperature and then you can surround the puppy with these nice warmers and get the puppy nice and warm. You can cover them up with some covers and get them until they are really nice and warm to the touch. Puppies cannot digest their food unless they are nice and warm. If you get in a puppy that is cold do not feed it. That will actually make things worse so you want to make sure that puppy is nice and warm, has gone to the bathroom and then it will be ready to feed."
