"Bait the dog- we have talked about this command in the previous sit and leave it, but it will hold true to the off command as well. If I surprise my dog on the bed or the couch, I want to get their attention through the tin man or a grunt. After I have their attention, to begin the off command I want to further the attention by baiting them. If you have a piece of kibble or treat, as I've said small pieces, you can have them smell the treat to get their attention. If you just come out of the shower or getting undressed with no food and you see the dog on the bed, you simply can fake bait with actually pretend you have something in your hand to get your dog's attention. This will cue them that a command is to follow. Baiting oftentimes is similar to a grunt to get the dog's attention, but I want you to remember that it's okay to bait your dog either with or without a treat, to let them know that something is to follow shortly thereafter.
