"Hi! I’m Melanie McLeroy with Taurus Training for Expert Village and we’re going to train a boxer puppy today. It’s time for little Indy, our boxer puppy to learn how to sit. This puppy is very attentive so I think she’ll be very responsive. Now we know that she is very food motivated that was obvious from our first training session, let her know I have the food and lead her nose up, if the nose goes up the rear end goes down. Sit, good, so when I think her bottom is about to hit the ground I say the word sit, don’t do it unless she really think it’s on the way down. Then as soon as the bottom hits the ground I mark it that is what I wanted to happen and she gets the reward. This is a very nice stay for a young boxer puppy. Okay, little puppy, sit, good, oh! very nice. This puppy is brilliant. Her owners must have worked with her. Okay, don’t under estimate your young puppy. Sit, good, they can learn at a very young age, in fact with this puppy I can tell that I can already start just using a hand signal and making my treat reinforcement much more in a minute. Okay, okay, sit, good, random… random reinforcement, okay, little puppy sit, good. So notice how I’m being less and less leading with how I’m using my hands and my body, okay, little puppy sit, good. So this 14-week-old boxer puppy is already responding to a verbal sit. This is excellent. Now I’m using a leash when I work with these dogs because I don’t want them to go mess up the camera but especially with your young puppies capitalize on the fact that they really wanted to know what to do and they want to pay attention be around you a lot. So practice all this without the leash. Indy, good, sit, good, excellent. Now we’ll move on to teaching this boxer puppy how to lie down. "
