"With the command ?leaves it," I want your dog to hear the command and instantly know to go immobile. Like other commands like "sit," they hear "sit" and they will gently push their butt down. With the "leave it" after they hear the command "leave it," and them to stop, still. For example, I'm down on my knee, I'm baiting my dog. I'm going to say, "Leave it." Notice the tone in my voice, how it's as deep as I can go, short, abrupt sound. Dogs in the wild are very vocal and oral. They communicate with barks, grunts, whines and touches. "Leave it" is very important. For examples, I used earlier of a toxic substance such as Tylenol, antifreeze or ibuprofen, so I want you to be very aware if you drop something off of the counter that they shouldn't eat, "leave it" in a tone where you get their full attention."
