"Bait the dog, I'm sure many of you have watched dog shows and agility championships where you'll see a handler take a treat, place it to the nose of the dog to get the attention. The purpose of baiting the dog is just that. I want the dog to know that I have the food, which they want. It creates not only keeping attention with the dog, but it shows that you're the boss having the food which the dog wants. I generally recommend with treats to use the smallest treat possible. I generally just use my dog's dry food kibble, to keep the weight down and to keep the size small. I like to bait the dog just by showing them I've got the food, bring it back up to your tin man position. A lot of the future commands in this tape, you will see how we come back to the tin man using a bait to get your dog's attention."
