Hi! This is Elise McMahon and in this video series we are talking about how to make your own dog food. If you would like to find out more about my services, you can visit my website at So in this short clip, we are going to be talking about liver treats. You can use liver treats as either a training treat or you can cut up into small little pieces and sprinkle it on top of the food to make it more palatable and more interesting. I will show you how to make. This is just one type. There is a lot of different ways you can make liver. Let me just show you one way fairly quick and easy that you can make liver treats. So we have got a package of fresh liver here. I like to buy liver from a place that has organic meats because the liver, you should not feed very much liver. It has got a lot of waste from the body in it. I am going to be putting this liver in to a pan and I am going to be filling this pan up with a little bit of water. You want to make sure that the liver is completely covered with the water and then we are going to put it on the stove and we are going to cook it for about 15 minutes. Once the liver is fully cooked, we are going to remove it from the water. I rinse it off, see you get some of the liver scuzz off of it, rinse it off and then we put it on a flat baking sheet, put in the toaster oven and if it is nice and flat like that, probably in the toaster oven for another about 10 or 15 minutes on a low heat about 200. The end product is nicely cooked and dried pieces of liver because I washed them off between the water boiling process and the baking process, there is not a lot of liver residue on my fingers. You can use this again as a treat or you can break off small pieces and sprinkle on top of your dog’s food. It does make an excellent training treat though. Again liver is something you would not want to feed in large amounts or very frequently probably about 2-3 times a week and depending on the size of your dog, just a portion of the dog’s food. You would not give them an entire meal of liver, but it is an excellent thing to add into their meal.
