How to Keep a Dog from Destroying Toys

In this short clip we are going to be talking about what you do if your dog begins to destroy his toys. Some dogs can have the same toy for years and years. This toy right here is probably about 4 years old. This toy is about 4 years old. So some dogs can play with it every day and never destroy it. However, some dogs will take toys and decapitate them or de-stuff them. Normally we call toys like these skins. The legs have been ripped off, the stuffing has been pulled out and on this toy, the entire body of the toy has been removed. You want to be very careful if you find your dog doing this because an important thing is to find out whether the dog has ingested any parts they have taken off. If they have, you want to go to your vet immediately. But overall if you find your dog is ruining their toys, you want to see what kinds of toys they are ruining. Are they ruining stuffed toys? If they are ruining stuffed toys then you want to trade off and get toys that they can’t ruin. If they are tearing up rubber toys then you can get them hard chew toys; bones that are for serious chewers. This is much harder than for example this toy is. So if I found this piece of plastic, this piece of rubber torn apart I would want to trade it in for a different type of toy. So you really want to be very careful when your dog is playing with toys to see how they are using them, whether or not they are tearing them apart and then just step back and find another toy that might be more appropriate for that particular dog. "
