Summary: Understand why it is important to your dog's health to have them spayed or neutered in this free video clip.
"Hi, I'm Jim Leske, animal trainer and behaviorist for Expert Village. Very exciting today; we have a very good friend of mine, Sylva Callagian (phonetic). You've seen her in such hit shows as Desperate Housewives, Big Love, and Prison Break, not to mention Stephen King's Desperation. My good friend Sylva is here to talk to you today about spaying and neutering your pets. Hi, Sylva. Thanks for coming out. Thank you. Thank you, Jim. Thanks for having me. As well as being an actress, I rescue animals in my spare time. I've rescued about 200 dogs in the last five years, and the one thing that I've come to realize is so important is the spaying and neutering of your animals. If you do not spay one dog, over that dog's lifetime 64,000 dogs could be born, and most of those dogs end up in shelters and being put to sleep. Or they end up in back yards, lonely, lonely, lonely, for the rest of their lives, because most people don't know how to care for their animals and a lot of them end up in yards and tied up on chains. So basically, by spaying your animal, you could save 64,000 lives over the course of a lifetime. That's how important it really is. There are 50,000 dogs and cats put to sleep in Los Angeles alone every year. And in this country, five million dogs are killed and cats are killed every year. So that's why it is so important to spay and neuter your animals. Also, health wise, they live longer. They don't get prostate cancer. For the boys, prostate cancer is really prevalent, if you don't neuter them. And I know that a lot of men feel that it's not good to neuter their animals, but trust me, your animal will live a lot longer and a lot happier, healthier life, if you neuter them. So that's it. For our next segment, we're going to talk about the importance of tags on your dogs, I.D. tags and microchipping. Thank you. "
