Dogs are NOT pack animals! True pack animals (e.g., wolves) mate for life and both male and female care for the young. Dogs do neither. Additionally, those who have observed domestic dogs that “go wild” have noted that these dog do not form packs. While a group of dogs may run together occasionally, it is not a “pack” structure because dogs come and go and females must remove themselves from other dogs when they whelp in order to keep other dogs from killing (and often eating) their pups. Dogs in the wild spend most of their time alone which means dogs are NOT the “social” creatures some people who don’t know what they’re talking about have led us to believe. Dogs do NOT require human companionship and get along just fine without humans. What dogs do, is what any other animal does and that is whatever it takes to obtain food. Domestic dogs have learned if they wag their tails, dance around like idiots and lick those “foolish 2-legged food machines,” they will receive treats, so that’s what they do. Dogs do not “love” their owners – unconditional, or otherwise – nor do are the loyal creatures dog owners would like to believe they are. Anyone who believes his “loyal” canine loves him unconditionally needs to do a little test. Have a neighbor start feeding the dog hamburger and steak instead of the processed dog food it gets at home, and see how fast that loyal pet transfers its loyalty and “unconditional love” to the neighbor! I own dogs, I have nothing against dogs, but it is wrong to attempt to try to turn them into something they’re not. A dog is fine living outdoors and has no problem being left alone is long as it has food, water and shelter.
