Here today to talk to you about vaccinations. Vaccinations are very important for all pet's lives, for the very reason that we don't spread disease among each other's pets, and to protect them from various diseases and other bacterias. Also remember, as an example here in Southern California, when we live very close to the mountains, as many other parts of the country do, in our case here, we've had a lot of fires and drought out in the mountains, as well as building homes higher and higher up into the mountains. This means that there's less food and prey opportunities in the mountains for the native wildlife. The end result is that the native wildlife is coming down into the cities and the suburbs looking for food. Remember that the local wildlife carry many diseases that are transmittable to your pets. So not only is it important to keep up their vaccinations, but keeping them safe by keeping them inside at night. As an example, if we come down here to Bear, when I apply Bear's flea control, I use the end of this tube as if it was a little poke. You can also use an ink pen or anything similar to like that. I don't recommend using a needle or a knife or a paper clip or anything like this. In this case like this, I'm just trying to get a positive response from the injection. So in this case, I'm faking or mocking an injection, and alls I'm doing is going under the coat, getting right into the skin, applying a little pressure, and telling him what a good boy he is. And just like I do it all over his body to desensitize that to him. He's got his favorite toy in his mouth right there, and I'm even going to give him a treat. Very very good. Okay? And as I keep on doing it, again, the same thing. Under the coat, right to the skin, and especially right in the areas where they might do an injection or an immunization, right there. This makes it a fun and a positive experience for you and your dog, and also your vet tech will love you for it, because they don't have to wrestle to give your dog a vaccination. I'm Jim Leske of Expert Village, and I hope this makes your dog's life of vaccinations an easy one.
